Sorry if this post is in the wrong place, my Latvian is not that great yet!
I am currently living in London doing quite a lot of flying with IC-planes (Iekšdedzes lidmašīnas?). As I am intending to move to Riga very soon I am just wondering if anyone knows if anyone is flying in that area, and in that case how I could get in contact with them? When I visited this summer someone told me there is activity at the Spilve-airport, is that true?
Also, is there any shops with IC-plane stuff in Riga?
Hi Johan! Glad to hear about every flying guy around here! Of course there are some activities around Riga, and probably largest is at Spilve airport. When you be there, i mean in Riga, do not hestitate to contact me by e-mail or phone 29223651. One more guy in our hangout will be very appreciate About shops. Mostly all parts we need we buy directly from internet. There is one small shop in Riga, but it is oriented to RC Cars. If you have any q, please ask!
Thanks for the quick reply al! I do have a few questions actually..
How many people is there flying at Spilve roughly? Is it a club, and in that case could I become a member and how much is it? How often does people fly there? Only on weekends or all days of week or? Do you fly all year round (weather permitting of course!) or just during summer?
I have many more questions but I think thats plenty for now!
Vienmēr laipni lūgts! Probably we fly all year long. Definetely more over the summer because of long daylight. But in winter some crazy guys like me fly in -10C Also there more and more become popular indoor flying with small electic planes. Maybe this year we try to organize some indoor competition or go to comps to our friends in Lithuania. May be i can ask question about your planes? How long you in that hobby?
What does the first line mean?! Im not that good yet! Only know stuff like Paldies, Labrit etc!
Sure, Ive bee doing this since I was 13 or 14 and Im 28 now. Had a break from it for several years but realised I couldn't stay away, I just really love flying and building planes I guess..
My main plane at the moment is an Extra 300 for 1.20 4 stroke, but I have been through a lot. Not crashed just had an appetite for trying new stuff! I used to design my own planes and also compete in "Dogfight" as we called it. Small 3 ch planes with .15 or .20 engines trying to cut off the streamer we had at the tails. A lot of fun that was..
Ive had a Cap21, Liberty Sport, Spitfire, Twister, Saab J22, Kobra, a pylon Mustang with tuned pipe and any more.
Are people flying iekšdedzes lidmašīnas mostly or gliders? I see a lot of info on gliders on here, but maybe Ive looked in the wrong place.
The first line means you're always welcome! Yes, over 10 years of flying it is good eperience. Are you fly in f3a competitions somwhere if you have such beautiful plane as Extra? Cannot say for all latvian flyers, but i try to discribe situation here. Probably situation here is not so good as we like to be. Big problem here is bad salary and no local hobby shops. Mostly, from RC flying models here popular are DLG gliders because of price. Also popular are H-600 small gliders but they not RC gliders (has throwed by hand freeflight models). Also many young guys has interest it RC space gliders, that ones with rocket enginees. Some of us fly IC planes. Biggest one is 50-60cc (do not know exactly) gas Diaboltin XL. So, here in Riga currently are ~10 guys who fly IC planes. Many fly small electric planes. ~10 people fly F3J big gliders. There are no "clubs" as you may be habit. There are no charge for flying. You are looking into right place , here are one web page (this one) for all flying things, and 2 or 3 pages for rc cars... More questions??
Cool. (Forshi?) Yeah, what planes are you flying? Where do you get fuel? Using Model Technics? Are people flying all days of week or just on weekends? How about you?
No Im not flying F3A as you would need more like a patternship plane, and I kind of like flying differently every time (freestyle) rather than practicing the same flight every time. But thats just my preference!
In summer we try to get to field every day, if weather is good. In winter ony at weekends, because after work there are night all around What about me?? I'm as always searching guy try to fly with everything I like to fly with helis (have Raptor 50 and T-Rex like heli MX450XS), Like ty fly Fun fly tipe birds, have Flip 40. In winter will build some indoors from my Lithuanian friend plans (may be you hear about Donatas Pauzuolis, if no, try to search Google, you will find many interesting things about him, and, of course videos. some of them you can find in our download area) But my love probably - F3J and F5J(big electric gliders) birds... It is in couple of words about me 2.4Ghz band is allowed here by law. But there are no special commitee who will approve hobby transmitters. If you have, you can use it.
Does people use Futaba mainly or Hitec or JR or? Also, is it hard to get hold of wood? I mean balsa, ply and that sort of stuff. I visited a shop in Riga while I was there, but can't remember seeing any wood there, kind of short visit though so maybe it escaped my view!
Internet can be great in my opinion, can get in contact with likeminded people several thousand kilometres away! Woooooooo!
of course it is great! power of internet!! Mostly here are Futaba radios. couple of Graupner, i see only two Hitecs, couple JR. I am and couple of peoples use 72mhz radios here because it is not prohibited and cheaper to get those stuff from USA. About wood... hmm... if i need wood i usually drive to Lithuanian shop Fuel also we buy from LT shop.. I have nothing to say about Riga shop, because not been here around 2 years.... But how i hear from other guys, nothing to see there Also, in prev posts you mean about using Model Technics. What do you mean?
Wow, you go to lithuania. In what town/city is the shop? Must be quite far.. Few hours drive at least?
Model Technics is the brand of fuel most people use here. What brands have you got, or does people mix themselves? Do you order most stuff from US then? Must be quite expensive with shipping and import taxes. Does anyone buy from UK? Say Ripmax or someone?
Did you mean you haven't been to the Riga shop for 2 years, or that you haven't been to Riga?
